For the draft Audio Story, I decided to set up a series of 2-3 people explaining their inspiration to begin riding horses. They are back to back in interview format. I begin the story with an introduction explaining what the question is and why it is asked. The story relates to my topic because it is all about the behind the scenes of an equestrian, and what riding horses truly means to me. The inspiration behind who or what inspired people to begin riding horses usually has a big impact on their career. The inspiration I used was listening to a few NPR stories and paying attention to the formatting. I used the same tools in Audition that were used in the second tutorial (interview tutorial). I used the voice memos app on my phone to record all the interviews and the intro. Then, I emailed them to myself to download and import to Adobe Audition. Then I edited the raw footage material and put them in the order I wanted. I started with the intro, then my response, then Alysse, Elsa, and finally, Liz. For my final project, I am trying to contact another friend to add to the interviews. After this was done, I decided I wanted to add a sound effect. I looked up “free-to-use horse sounds” and found a sound I like on orangefreesounds.com. I downloaded the sound after reading the creative commons to be sure I wouldn’t be stepping on any copyright laws. I found the license and clarified that I could use it. The horse neigh is the first thing on the multitrack and comes before my intro with a fade in and out. The hardest part for me was incorporating sound effects that were not abrupt and editing the interviews to the way I wanted. It took a few tries, but I got them to finally sound smooth. For other people struggling with this, the most helpful thing to me was zooming in on the track you are working on, so you can see the sound waves better when using the razor tool.

Hello Logan,
First of all, I have to say I enjoyed the horse sound effect at the beginning of the audio story. Maybe you could add more of those, maybe some galloping sounds in the background? I think your idea of asking people about their inspiration and how they got interested in riding horses is good and the people you chose to interview had interesting responses, but I would suggest also introducing the names of the people who are responding in the recording at the beginning along with the introduction of the topic. I also think the audio could be better-balanced volume-wise because I can hear the first half of it very clearly but the last half of it was a lot quieter. I would suggest turning up the volume on the recordings in the last section of the interview to make it sound as loud and clear as the first part of the interview. Other than that, nice work.

Hello! Thank you for your feedback! I will go back and play around with the volume in my recordings. I did think about adding more sounds to make it less boring, but I had a hard time deciding which sound to use and where to put it. For the final, I plan to clean it up a little bit and make it into a more professional interview. As Emily suggested, I will introduce the question I am asking along with the people I am interviewing. I could also put music through the entire interview, quietly in the background like we did in the tutorial, or I could add more sound effects. I will play around with that to decide which one I want to use, but I think if I added both music and sound effects it would be too much noise. I also thought about maybe having more of a discussion where there is conversation between me and the girls I interviewed. I live with all of them so if I need new or more material, it will be easy to get. Thanks again for the feedback!

I really like the idea for this story! I think you did a really good job on this. My only suggestions would be to maybe add in an introduction and also introduce the people talking. You could also edit out the times where the speaker would pause just to make it a little smoother. Great job!

Hi Logan! I really like your opening sound effect. Its really unique and interesting to have that horse neighing as it ties directly into the topic of your audio story. Something I noticed was that your did not really explain why/what inspired you to write this audio story. Additionally, I think that your interviewees could go into further depth as to why they ride horse and what has motivated them to stick with the sport. I really like what you have so far. Nice work!
